Course Summary:
On Sunday, September 10, 2017, three hammerhead tower cranes collapsed within hours of each other; two in Miami and one in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., during heavy winds in the wake of Hurricane Irma. Miami and Ft. Lauderdale were experiencing tropical storm conditions as Hurricane Irma made landfall on the west coast of Florida. In these particular crane collapses, no one was injured because construction everywhere was at a standstill, and residents were either evacuated or taking shelter in their homes.
Learning Objective:
The purpose of this course is to find out the cause and origin of the failures in the three cranes.
